That time has come…

3:47 pm November 12th, 2008 by ben

This has not been a easy decision, but I think it is the right one.  I have decided to retire this blog.

When I started How I Met Your Blog, the show was new and exciting.  I didn’t have a whole lot happening on Monday nights and work was slow.  I had plenty of time to dedicate to the site and enjoyed working on it.  Recently you have probably noticed that all the post have consisted of new episode announcements (the day they air) and quick little comments on what I thought.  Both of those have become a chore to do and have caused me more stress than excitement.  I haven’t even seen the last two episodes, much less had time to post about them!  Things have been picking up around my life and I just don’t have the passion I had when I started.

The good news is that while I was one of the first HIMYM dedicated blogs, several new ones have sprouted up.  My new favorite one is “Have you met Ted?“  JD runs the site and is a very talented writer.  He is passionate about the show and works hard on his blog.  If you are looking to keep up with the show and aren’t familiar with his site, I certainly suggest visiting and poking around.  The other resource I would like to direct you to is the HIMYM Forum.  While I haven’t been on there in a while, it was one of the first places I used to go to to share my opinions and discuss the show.  These are the two places that I will be going for all my HIMYM gossip.

Thank you all for visiting, commenting, sending in tips, and especially all the encouragement and kind words.  It has been an absolute pleasure to get to know you and read what you think about this great show.  I would like to especially thank Cora, Jack and Voltaire for the help with the podcast.  I will be leaving the site up as a resource for fans, but this will be my last post.

I wish you all well and keep it legendary!

-Ben

“Shelter Island”

8:30 pm October 20th, 2008 by ben

I’ll have my review up soon, but for now here’s a post for you to comment on tonight’s episode.

What’d you think?  I think we all knew that this couldn’t be the actual wedding, but weren’t sure how things were going to turn out.  I liked this episode.   There were some funny points, some high points, and definitely some low points.

I’m sad that Stella is gone.  We knew she would be, but I kinda liked her.  Well what I mean is I liked seeing Sarah Chalke.  I’m also sad that Barney messed things up with Robin.  He just couldn’t contain himself (and really who can blame him).

My favorite part was when Robin and Ted were talking:

Robin: You stole a blue french horn for me, you tried to make it rain…
Ted: I did make it rain.

Tonight’s new episode: “Shelter Island”

9:58 am October 20th, 2008 by ben

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens tonight after this synopsis:

Shelter Island: Ted and Stella get married with only a few days’ notice.

Surely they won’t be really getting married, or will they?

“Old” Barney makes TVGuide’s Top Moments of the Week

5:11 pm October 17th, 2008 by ben

7. Biggest Blast from the “Future”: Can we time-travel to next September and give Neil Patrick Harris an Emmy already? His work on How I Met Your Mother as “Old Barney,” who ostensibly travels from the future to save mankind by bedding hot tamales, was downright impressive in the accuracy of every nuance, trembling hand, and unfocused gaze.

The fine folks over at TVGuide.com are able to identify pure genius when they see it.  This week’s top moments include one from our favorite show.  It’s hard not to love any of Barney’s pickup lines, but the old-man-time-traveler bit was pure genius.

“Intervention”

11:35 pm October 13th, 2008 by ben

Wow.  Where to start.  Overall I thought the episode was pretty good.  I mean it’s no classic, but solid.  What I think we all probably want to talk about is the ending.  What was that!?!  So did they actually all leave? Did they stay?  Where’s Stella?  So many questions, so few answers.  What do you guys think?

Here’s what I think happened…. Nothing.  I think something will come up where Ted doesn’t marry Stella, Marshall and Lily kept the current apartment they are in, and Robin didn’t go to Japan.   Maybe that’s just the pessimism in me, but that’s what I am concluding.

Tonight’s New Episode: “Intervention”

3:50 pm October 13th, 2008 by ben

I’m falling behind already and it’s only the 4th episode of the season.  Shame on me…  Here’s CBS’s synopsis of tonight’s new episode:

Intervention: Ted discovers that Marshall and Lily were going to stage an intervention

So descriptive!

Looks like the group is headed to New Jersey as CBS says in their episode preview:

I Heart NJ: Ted convinces the group to hang out at Stella’s place in New Jersey.

Best Burger in New York

10:05 pm October 5th, 2008 by ben

I know, I know, I’m late posting.  Sorry.

This episode was just average to me.  It didn’t really move any plots along or have much character development.  Ok so it established Marshall’s job situation, but a whole episode for just that? Meh. I don’t really know what else to say.  It just didn’t do it for me this week.

The HIMYM cast is back for episode two of this season titled “Best Burger in New York”.  Guest star Regis Philbin and Marshall are on a quest to find…. the best burger in New York. Duh.  Looks interesting.

“Do I Know You?”

11:04 pm September 22nd, 2008 by ben

It’s sad to say, but I only got to watch about 85% of this epsisode.  I had a mini-emergency come up just as it was close to ending.  What I saw I liked, but want to wait until I see the whole thing before making a final judgement.  Either way, I’m glad it’s back!

I wanted to get this little stub of a post up so you all had somewhere to comment on tonight’s season primier.  I’ll be back with my thoughts when I can finish watching.  Hopefully CBS will have it online shortly!

update: So I went ahead and bought the whole season on iTunes.  It’s a little expensive, but this way I’ll have a copy of them to keep.

Anyways, I finally got to watch this episode.  And I’m glad we’re back!   The episode as a whole was alright, but it does a good job of setting up some coming stories for this season.  I have a feeling this isn’t the end for Barney and Robin, despite his little “Ode to Bimbos” at the end.  And I predict more struggles with Stella and Ted.  I mean we can’t really know the mother already, can we?

I think we’re in for quite the ride this season.  What do you think?
