Save HIMYM!!

Well my heart just sunk. I got a tip from fellow fancaster, Cora, about a petition online to save HIMYM. According to the petition there are some executives that want to cancel How I Met Your Mother because of dropping rankings. I really feel it would be a shame to cancel the show, and not just because I don’t know what I will do with all my free time, but it’s a great show and has real potential.

So if you want HIMYM to stick around, head over and sign the petition! It only takes 2 seconds and there is no registration required!

Update: Guasimaster sent in this poll about saving your favorite show, and guess what HIMYM is on there. Head over and vote. I don’t think these things have a major impact on if a show stays around or not, but it never hurts to show how much we all love the show. Polls close April 6th.

Over at givememyremote.com there is a discussion going on about this, too. It’s between HIMYM, Scrubs, 30 Rock, and The Office.

CBS can’t be this dumb, can they? I mean, 5 seasons of Yes Dear?! Yet they can’t give the green light to HIMYM, but are more than willing to promote yet another serial crime drama (they’re all the same!)? It just doesn’t make sense. The cult following is there. Critics and fans alike adore the show.

A basic rule of television, ala Nobody’s Watching, is that a show will stay on the air seemingly forever if there is an audience for it.

  2. Keith Says:

It just doesnt make sense that this is HIMYM, CBS seems really behind the show.

Simmer down… I doubt the creators of the show would have been inked to a deal thru 2010 if the show was in danger of being cancelled so soon:

Phew…glad to see that article. But the contract deal is with 20th Century Fox, NOT CBS.

Online petitions don’t work. They’ve been done to death and yet no one seems to realize that they have no ability to keep a show afloat. Ratings and DVD sales are the way to do so.

However, I don’t feel HIMYM is in any real danger. It doesn’t seem like it’s an expensive show to make and as far as I know, HIMYM has been becoming more popular this season. The Robin Sparkles video helped with that.

Might the Blind Item be wrong? Sure. But, its clearly meant to be about HIMYM. Now, I tend to agree that online petitions aren’t the best way to communicate with TV Networks. Can’t hurt though. What I’d really urge, though, is first writing letters to the CBS Network and the local affiliates. Doesn’t have to be “Save My Show” despairing. Indeed, I think positive reinforcement works best. Tell them you love the show and are looking forward to enjoying it for years to come. What’s the worst that’ll come of that? The show was never in any risk and you just gave some positive feedback? Well worth the effort, I say.

I’ve started a blog at http://ymiab.blogspot.com/ to offer some basic advice and pointers. Anyone who has got any other ideas can send them along and I’ll be happy to post them. Nothing bad will result from telling a TV network that you like their show. I sure hope this a much ado about nothing, but that’s no reason to sit on our hands when we could be telling CBS how we feel. Whether its a risk or not, its good to let CBS known we enjoy HIMYM.

I signed the online petition and wrote a I love this show letter on CBS website . E! online Watch with Kristen says the show is on the bubble too. They tore down the bar set while she was there! WHAT THE F— are those idiots at CBS thinking?Apparently some CBS exec doesn’t like the show at all for some reason. Maybe one of the other networks would pick it up… it’s happened before. This bugs me in a major way…

  8. Keith Says:

That article is depressing about the set being broken down. Is that something they did after season one? they has to be a pretty bad sign.

This seems like it is coming out of no where really. I am pretty shocked if this is true. I thought it was a lay up for a season 3.

I still have my doubts how much trouble the show is in, but the story got legs all over the internet now.

This is depressing, who thought we would have to try to save this show like this? Its very frustrating and annoying for fans of shows to be living in fear of their show getting axed. I have been here a dozen times, seems like I am drawn to shows that no one likes.

I guess this means the class is done for sure.

    Sucks.

If they do cancel, the’re losing a great opportunity. The amount of creativity and effort the cast and crew went into making this show deserves much better than aa pink slip at a time when their true potential hasn’t even been seen yet.

  10. Cora Says:

About the set being tore down, she didn’t say it was a bad thing she just said it was “heartbreaking” They have probably already filmed the finale and needed the space for something else this summer, or they could need it for Marshall and Lily’s Wedding.

  11. Dan Says:

That’s what I was thinking about the set. A set being torn down doesn’t exactly mean cancellation. It’s possible they need it for something else over the summer, or just another HIMYM setting.

However, if HIMYM does get a Season 3, then they definitely need it again. I wonder, when they “torn down” does it mean literally torn down and thrown away, or if they just took the pieces of the set and put them in storage.

  12. Keith Says:

I read in the philly papers today about all the shows being “on the bubble” and they listed percents next to each show.

HIMYM was 80% for coming back and they guy said it seems safe. Rule of Engagment was 90%, CHristine 60%, the Class 40%.

They also had a phone number and another email address to use for getting your voice heard, but stupid me I left the paper in the office. I will bring it home tomorrow and post it on here for all to see and we should start calling them up and letting them know we think the show is steaksauce

  13. Keith Says:

    call CBS

    at 212-975-3247 or 212-975-3248.

Tell them to keep the legendary show.

Or maybe ship a box of mice, just make sure you cut the holes in the box.
