    Charlie,

I looked but both of those songs have no words. I’m afraid I can’t look up a song based on just a few notes, but sometimes they post the season soundtrack on the HIMYM myspace. You can check there. Sorry.

Do you know where I can find the piano sheet music to the slapsgiving song?

  7. Matthew Says:

I’d also like the music for “I just got slapped” for piano :) it’d be pretty cool to play that song

  8. Bobby Poole Says:

I’m working on the sheet music. It’s not quite ready yet, but here is the chord sequence:

    [intro]
    C F C G

    [what is this feeling...]
    C F C G
    [a hot red burning...]
    C F C G
    [you feel the blood rush...]
    Bb Bb F C
    [your lips are trembling...]
    Bb Bb F G G G

    [you just got slapped...]
    F G C C
    [you just got slapped...]
    F G C C
    [everybody saw it...]
    F G E A
    [it was awesome...]
    F G … …

    [outro]
    C F C G

And that’s it. I haven’t had the chance to put much of the lead together, bt it seems to follow the chords quite closely. The song’s at roughly 120 BPM, and in the key of F major.

  9. Matt Says:

Hey umm i was just wondering how you managed to come up with the chords like that? I want to learn how to come up with accompaniment chords from vocals. How’d u do that?

  10. Bobby Poole Says:

I’m not a good teacher, but I hope the following helps:

To get the chords I listened to the bass notes from the piano, and played along with my guitar doing an improvised bass line. The lead notes follow the chords fairly strictly too, so it helped narrow down the exact chords.

As for chord construction to match your vocals, it’ll be a lot easier if you can transcribe your vocal melody to sheet music. You need to find out what key the vocals are in, and write down what notes of the octave are in that key. If you search on Google you should be able to find a list of the keys (if not, let me know and I’ll list them here).

If you already know the basic theory of chord construction skip this paragraph. Chords are made up from the notes of the key. First take a note (any note) as your root. The other notes of a chord follow a pattern from this root depending on the chord type. A standard chord is made of three notes at position 1, 3, and 5 of the the key, relative to the root (where 1 is the root note itself). Now just move the root note around the key for different chords.

For the chord sequence you just need to play around a bit. Just pick some notes from the key the vocals are in, and play a basic bass riff using them. These are your root notes for the chords in your sequence. It may take a few attempts to get something that sounds good, but with a bit of persistance you’ll find something that works.

If you need it there’s good chord theory at http://jmdl.com/howard/music/quick_crd_ref.html . It may be for guitar, but the theory can be transferred to any instrument.

I’ve found a page with the key signatures at http://www.empire.k12.ca.us/CAPISTRANO/Mike/capmusic/Key%20Signatures/key_signatures.htm

If you have any questions with what I’ve said don’t hesitate to ask.

  11. Bobby Poole Says:

Quick correction on the chord sequence: where it says

    [everybody saw it…]
    F G E A

    It should be

    [everybody saw it…]
    F G E Am

The A chord should be A minor.

hey would anyone by any chance have the piano sheet music that they cood send to me or something? cuz im finding it pretty hard to learn the hole song by ear

  13. Mike Says:

    Sweet!,
The chords are a huge help. I was only able to get the first part by ear, but usually when they sing, I lose track.

    Thanks

  14. claire Says:
