How the writers strike impacts HIMYM
Update: I actually wrote this post a week or two ago, but somehow managed to forget to post it. I just checked CBS’s website and it looks like this might be affecting us as soon as next week. CBS is saying that next weeks episode will be “Arrivederci Fiero.” Hopefully the two parties can reach an agreement soon so we can get back to our regularly scheduled programing!
You’ve all heard about the writers strike that is affecting Hollywood and all the TV show’s we’ve grown to love. You are also probably wondering how this is going to affect our own How I Met Your Mother. Well in the last post about NPH going on Wheel of Fortune had a interesting note in the article.
Meanwhile, Craig Thomas, co-creator of Harris’ current vehicle, How I Met Your Mother, revealed to E! Online that the show is filming its final written script this week, before shutting down production until new material can be written if and when the writers finally go back to work. With this being the series’ last shooting week, it’s expected that How I Met Your Mother could air until the first or second week of December.
Thomas also said that their cast has been “totally cool” about the writers’ boycott, citing that “Alyson Hannigan was on the line with us for like three hours yesterday, handing out her leftover candy bars from Halloween. Several of the cast members came, actually.”
So it looks like if this strike continues into December, we will be left in limbo until they can find a resolution.
I, personally, completely agree with the writer’s strike. Who would have predicted that TV networks would start putting all their shows online for free (ad supported) and not share the ad revenue with the people making the show? Should the two parties be unable to find an agreement, I would LOVE to see many of these talented writers start developing their own independent TV shows that they post on the internet and take ad revenue all for themselves.

It’s good that they’re getting half-a-season in before the strike kicks in…at least for viewers. Big Bang got halted immediately (pisses me off, but Chuck Lorre has the dual role).
From a potential writer’s point of view (and yes, I am currently writing a screenplay), it’s good that we’re finally getting to the end of “new” content, so that the hit of a strike can truly be felt now. Unfortunately there is a lot of midseason stuff that may still come in early, and the writers acting now may not be such a good thing (and one of my professors says that it only affects 5% of writers). Aside from that, WYSIWYG.

Would the choice of the rerun give an indication to how long the network believes the strike will last?

this is the first repeat all season and i think if there was no strike there woulda been a repeat sooner
