“Old” Barney makes TVGuide’s Top Moments of the Week

7. Biggest Blast from the “Future”: Can we time-travel to next September and give Neil Patrick Harris an Emmy already? His work on How I Met Your Mother as “Old Barney,” who ostensibly travels from the future to save mankind by bedding hot tamales, was downright impressive in the accuracy of every nuance, trembling hand, and unfocused gaze.

The fine folks over at TVGuide.com are able to identify pure genius when they see it. This week’s top moments include one from our favorite show. It’s hard not to love any of Barney’s pickup lines, but the old-man-time-traveler bit was pure genius.

I can’t remember where the original tip came for this, but Cora sent me a link to some scans of a recent article about HIMYM and how it is shot. The article is an awesome read and reveals some stuff that I didn’t know.

- Bays and Thomas have planned how the last 5 minutes of the show will be, “whenever that is.”
- They often shoot more than one episode at a time, and the actors are as clueless as to how the final cut will look as we are.
- The actors all love the way the show is shot.
- Bays and Thomas think that each season should have it’s own theme. I wonder what season three’s theme will be!?!

Ashley Williams Gets New Show

I know this is a stretch for HIMYM news, but I have a thing for Ashley Williams who we know better as Victoria. Apparently Ashley’s role on How I Met Your Mother didn’t go unnoticed. She has taken a lead role in an unnamed comedy on ABC. I’m glad she’s going to be on TV again, and no matter what this new show is about, you can bet I’ll be watching every week!

To make the circle complete, another interesting tid-bit about this new show is that it is being written by two of the “Freaks and Geeks” writers, where our very own Jason Segel stared.

TV Gal gets to hang on the set

Zap2it.com is running an article about “TV Gal” getting to hang out on the set of How I Met Your Mother. The article is neat, but the one quote that got me thinking was:

My major complaint with “HIMYM” has been that its parts were greater than its whole. Love the jokes, love the characters but somehow the whole episode doesn’t always come together.

This is sorta what we talked about on our latest fancast. Last episode was a lot of Ted, and very little of the others, and sometimes all the stories just don’t come together. I guess this can be seen as a blessing and a curse. It’s nice to see individual character developments, but sometimes seems too much like two independent stories just told in the same timeslot. Am I wrong here?
